Funding for the Memory Project
The Memory Project is a 501c3 nonprofit organization, but we still need money to operate, and the way we get virtually all of our funding is to ask that everyone involved contributes $15 to help cover the costs. These small fees pay for all of the costs of getting the portraits around the world and coordinating the entire effort. A portion is also donated to the orphanages so that we can make a collective financial contribution to them along with the portraits. All donations are tax-deductible.
Of course, we don't want anyone to miss out on participating because of $15, so here are a few resources to help your group get funding. Also, please know that you don’t need to send the money up front. You are welcome to go through the entire process of creating the portraits and then send the participation fees to us with the finished artwork:
Individual Sponsorship Letter
A letter students can give to parents, family friends, relatives, or anyone else who would like to sponsor them individually.
Group Sponsorship Letter
A letter you can give to your school's PTA, student council, clubs, community organizations, businesses, or anyone else who may like to sponsor your whole group.
Tons of suggestions from teachers for funding this project.
And if you are very committed to participating but cannot get any of these fundraising methods to work, please let us know. We’ll work together to make sure you can participate one way or another.
